OUR ACTIVITIES

As per Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, we believe that every young person has the right to “rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities (…) and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.”

We work across living sites, day centres and safehouses in Calais and Dunkirk, facilitating workshops and drawing on principles of detached youth work. The aim is to provide targeted psychosocial support and activities to refugee, asylum seeking and migrant teenagers between the ages of 11 and 18, many of whom are unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.

Our team of volunteer youth workers and facilitators meet teenagers where they are, equipped with a range of activities to form the basis for connection and support. Our activities support teenagers to have more of a sense of control over their life, a sense of belonging, encourage them in exploring their own meanings of self-expression and promote relationship and community building between teenagers themselves and with other professionals who support them.

Previous activities have included songwriting projects, woodwork, a gardening project, sewing and textiles, music video production, different artistic workshops, physical activities and many more! We try to be led as much as possible by the young people’s interests and desires, whilst also introducing them to new experiences and opportunities.

Alongside this, where appropriate we aim to equip young people with skills that can support them in their current circumstances. This might look like making a board game out of wood or using a sewing machine to fix their clothes or sleeping bag whilst also adding their own statement and personalisation
